Lauren Shockey is a New York City-based food writer. Her articles have appeared in many print and online publications including The New York Times, The New York Times Style Magazine/The Moment Blog, The Wall Street Journal, Gastronomica, Departures, Slate, The Atlantic Food Channel, Chile Pepper, Saveur,and The Village Voice, where Lauren was the restaurant critic from 2010 to 2012. Lauren has also worked as a freelance cookbook editor and recipe tester/developer.
Lauren is also the author of the culinary memoir with recipes, Four Kitchens, which recounts the year she spent apprenticing in restaurant kitchens in New York, Hanoi, Tel Aviv, and Paris.
A graduate of the University of Chicago, where she majored in French literature, Lauren also holds a diploma in classic culinary arts from The French Culinary Institute and a Master of Arts in food studies from New York University. She was the 2008 recipient of the Culinary Trust/Julia Child Foundation’s grant to study culinary traditions in France.
When she’s not cooking or eating or writing, she enjoys playing squash, completing crossword puzzles, and traveling.
